About the presenters
Paula Speevak, President & CEO, joined Volunteer Canada after serving as the Managing Director of Carleton University’s Centre for Voluntary Sector Research and Development. At Carleton, in the School of Public Policy and Administration, she taught a graduate course in Nonprofit Management, and at the University of Ottawa she taught undergraduate courses in Governance in the Voluntary Sector and Community Service-Learning. Prior to her focus on applied research, Paula enjoyed a 24-year career as a practitioner and senior manager in the non-profit and voluntary sector in both institutional and community-based settings, in Montréal, Ottawa and on pan-Canadian initiatives. She holds a Master of Management Degree from McGill University in the McGill-McConnell Program for National Voluntary Sector Leaders.
Pedro Antunes is Deputy Chief Economist at The Conference Board of Canada where he leads a team of economists responsible for the production of the Conference Board’s suite of economic forecast products, as well as other reports and economic indicators that relate to Canada and its regions. Mr. Antunes is a spokesperson for the Conference Board and has provided expert testimony before parliamentary committees. He makes numerous presentations on economic topics and dialogues with Canadian leaders, the public and media about issues important to Canada. In addition to the regular forecast publications that he oversees, Mr. Antunes also led research on the impact of demographic change on the financial sustainability of public health care, productivity and other issues affecting the long-term economic growth for Canada and its provinces. Pedro also worked on several international projects, helping decision-makers in Tunisia, Morocco, Jordan and Ukraine develop appropriate forecasting and policy analysis tools.
