The Canadian Dam Association (CDA) www.cda.ca is seeking a part-time Executive Director to contribute to fulfilling the CDA’s mission and vision. The Executive Director is the chief staff officer for the CDA and is the primary point of contact for the volunteer Board of Directors and Executive Committee. This individual will be expected to provide some services directly to the Board of Directors and Executive Committee, and to coordinate the work of other contract staff, subject matter specialists, outside service providers and contractors, and volunteers. 

This role will be of greatest interest to individuals with significant association management experience who are ready to lead an organization and want flexibility in their day-to-day work situation; or to companies providing staff leadership services to several clients.

Overview of the CDA
The Canadian Dam Association is a group of owners, operators, regulators, consultants and suppliers interested in dams and reservoirs. CDA generates and disseminates technical knowledge on dams and provides a forum for the exchange of ideas and experience in the field of dam safety, public safety and protection of the environment.

Overview of the Position
The primary responsibilities of the Executive Director are governance and external relations. The Executive Director also oversees all other service providers who provide operational functions:

  • Membership (recruitment, retention, products and services)

  • Communications

  • Committees / volunteer management

  • Conference & professional development

  • Financial management

Overview of Contract Terms

  • The Executive Director will be expected to provide services for 600-700 hours per year (approximately 0.5 Full-Time Equivalent).

  • This is a virtual workplace situation; the Executive Director will be responsible for their own work environment.

  • The Executive Director will be required to be somewhat flexible in hours of work and workdays to accommodate the various time zones that CDA members are operating in and the cyclical nature of the CDA’s activities.

  • This position is based in Canada; applicants/proponents should be residing in and must be eligible to work in Canada (i.e. Canadian citizen, permanent resident, work permit holder; eligible refugee).

  • The Executive Director will not be a CDA employee but an independent service provider under contract to CDA, either from a company or as an independent consultant / sole proprietor. The terms of a services contract will be negotiated upon selection of the candidate. The specific terms will depend on many factors including the skills and experience of the individual and the CDA’s association management structure.

The CDA is currently looking to fill several support positions, including this one.

  • Companies are welcome to submit a proposal to provide any or all the services required, by submitting either an omnibus proposal encompassing multiple positions or individual proposals for each position.
