Vanier Centre for Women is a medium to maximum correctional facility for female offenders serving sentences of less than two years or who have been arrested and are remanded in custody awaiting trial.
As a Volunteer Comfort Kit Coordinator, you will be helping the Discharge Planner and Volunteer Services with the collection and organizing of the kits. You will also assist with storage/inventory and allocation of the kit for the women being discharged from Vanier.
Why is the program important? This program supports women who are at risk when leaving Vanier with toiletry items and seasonal clothing. By aiding the Comfort Kit Program, you will do you part in keeping women safe once they are discharged.
What will You Do? Welcome and thank donors who arrive at our door to drop of their donations for the Comfort Kit Program. You will also be responsible for ensuring that their experience with Vanier is positive, making sure the donation room is organized and tidy, and that donations are accurately tracked and easily accessible to Vanier staff.
Any further responsibilities? You will also track donations as they come in and sorting through donations and separate what Vanier can use from items that need to be disposed of or donated to other organizations. Shelve donations into their designated areas and other duties assigned within the scope of this role.
What is your qualification? You have strong customer service and communication skills. Strong organization skills and the ability to lift 40 pounds. You are also creative; can problem solve and think outside the box.
What is the commitment? We are looking for volunteers who can commit to a regular Thursday shift once a week for 3 hours for a minimum of six months to a year. Volunteers must be 18 years of age or older to volunteer.
Any volunteer training? Yes! Volunteers must complete the onboarding process and attend an orientation before starting their shift.
