Associate Executive Director (AED) – Volunteer Position

Anticipated Start Date: February 2025
Hours: 9-12 hours per month, 1 year term
Location: Hybrid (day-to-day remote, some events in person).

Role Description: The Associate Executive Director (AED) of Youth Rising Above (YRA) will serve as a key
leader within the organization, reporting to and working closely with the Executive Director (ED) to ensure the
successful delivery of YRA’s mission, programs, and services. The AED will provide strategic and operational
support across all areas of the organization, including program development, community engagement, fund
development, financial oversight, human resources management, and policy implementation.

As a leader, the AED will play a vital role in strengthening organizational capacity, ensuring operational
excellence, and enhancing YRA’s impact on youth and communities. The AED will represent YRA in various
capacities, building partnerships and maintaining strong relationships with stakeholders to advance the
organization’s goals.

This position requires a collaborative, resourceful, and results-oriented leader who is passionate about
addressing youth poverty and empowering young people.

Responsibilities/Duties

Leadership and Strategic Planning

  • Collaborate with the ED to implement YRA’s mission, vision, and strategic direction.
  • Assist in capacity building and the execution of Board-approved strategic plans.
  • Support the development and oversight of special projects, partnerships, and advocacy efforts.
  • Provide input and analysis to inform the ED and Board on operational and community developments.

Program/Service Development & Delivery

  • Assist in the design and implementation of programs that align with best practices and community needs.
  • Oversee program evaluation processes to monitor impact and ensure quality delivery.
  • Support the continuous improvement and scaling of YRA programs to address youth poverty.

Community Engagement and Fund Development

  • Represent YRA in public engagements, fostering strong relationships with stakeholders and community partners.
  • Support the development of grant applications, funding proposals, and donor communications.
  • Contribute to the development of annual fundraising goals and strategies.

Financial Management

  • Work with the ED and finance team to oversee budget planning and financial reporting.
  • Ensure fiscal accountability and alignment with organizational goals.
  • Support the preparation of accurate financial statements for Board review.

Policy & Procedure Development

  • Collaborate with the ED on reviewing and implementing policies aligned with organizational priorities and sector best practices.
  • Ensure compliance with legislative requirements and alignment with YRA values.

Human Resources Management

  • Assist in the recruitment, onboarding, and development of team members and volunteers.
  • Support performance management processes to promote professional growth.
  • Act as a resource for HR policy implementation and organizational structure adjustments.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in a related field (e.g., Nonprofit Management, Social Work, Public Administration).
  • Minimum of 5 years of demonstrated leadership experience in a nonprofit management.
  • Experience managing diverse teams.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong understanding of youth programming, poverty reduction, and community development.
  • Experience with fund development, including grant writing and donor relations.
    Financial literacy, including budgeting and financial reporting.
  • Familiarity with risk management and nonprofit governance.

Other Requirements:

  • Experience working with youth or in grassroots organizations is an asset.
