Job Title: 3D Modeller/3D Capture Specialist
Job Location: Remote
Compensation: No remuneration; Opportunity for co-op, capstones, volunteer, project placement, etc.
Number of Hours per Week: 5-20 (to be determined)

This position is an exciting opportunity for a candidate passionate about 3D capturing, modeling, and integrating assets into user-friendly interfaces. Working on photogrammetrically scanned ceremonial costumes offers a unique chance to refine skills in handling intricate 3D data and optimizing models for web-based 3D environments. Applicants are encouraged to submit portfolios showcasing expertise in 3D capturing, retopology, UV mapping, and texture remapping.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Utilize expertise in 3D capturing techniques to create and edit photogrammetrically scanned exhibits.

  • Execute topologizing of captured models, ensuring manifold, quad-based topology and texture remapping for optimal quality.

  • Create normal textures for lowerpoly versions if deemed necessary, maintaining high-quality visual fidelity.

  • Writing code and integrating interactive features for user-interaction.

  • Troubleshooting technical issues and providing timely resolutions.

  • Collaborating effectively with the development team for updates and improvements.

  • Implementing and monitoring security measures to safeguard data.

  • Assisting with the integration of various multimedia content for exhibits.

  • Administrative tasks pertaining to job duties and related responsibilities.

Required Skills:

  • Proficiency in 3D capturing technologies (e.g., photogrammetry, 3D scanning).

  • Strong 3D modeling skills using software like Blender, ThreeJs, Maya, or 3ds Max.

  • Experience in retopology techniques and workflows for scanned data.

  • Expertise in UV mapping, texture remapping, and normal map creation.

  • Understanding of optimization techniques for web-based 3D content.

  • Collaboration skills to work alongside UX/UI teams for effective integration.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, take initiative, and drive projects forward without constant supervision.

  • Collaborate with UX/UI team to ensure seamless integration of 3D models within web environments.

  • Participate in user flow analysis to optimize user interactions with 3D content.

  • Iterate and refine user interface designs to enhance user experience with 3D elements.

  • Communicate effectively with cross-functional teams to implement 3D models in a user-friendly manner.

  • Enthusiasm for technology and a keen interest in cultural heritage.

Qualifications:

  • Language Required: English, fluency in French and/or Spanish is an asset but not required.

  • Level of Education: Post-Secondary is a minimum. Open to students.

  • Capability to perform the above tasks and responsibilities independently with minimal supervision.
