December traditionally leads the way as the biggest fundraising month for Canadian nonprofits and charities. So what better way to kick off the season of giving than with an entire day devoted to giving back in your community? That’s what GivingTuesday is all about, and, taking place after Black Friday and Cyber Monday on the first Tuesday in December, it acts as the opening day of the giving season.

With this year (December 3) marking Canada’s first national involvement in the GivingTuesday movement, we at CharityVillage were excited to get involved. And as keen supporters of the Canadian nonprofit community, finding ways to give back to the sector is important to us, both as a company and as individuals. In fact, as big believers in the sector, our staff quietly give back to their communities and the causes near and dear to their hearts all year round. And so, all day on GivingTuesday, we thought it would be fun for our staff to share the good work they were doing to mark the day by posting an #unselfie picture.

What’s an #unselfie picture, you ask? Like a regular selfie, it’s a self-portrait, usually taken with a mobile device. But unlike a regular self-portrait, an unselfie showcases what you are doing to do good.

Not only was this a fun way to recognize our staff’s involvement in the sector and encourage others across the country to give, it also turned into a fun teambuilding exercise! Here are some of the unselfie pictures we shared throughout the day on GivingTuesday. We hope they add to your inspiration in giving back to your community – and encourage you to have fun while doing it!
