CCVO released the Facing the Storm: State of the Sector 2023 Report, which delves into the state of the sector in Alberta and provides data and actionable strategies for nonprofits. Amid the affordability crisis, current world issues, and persistent local challenges, Albertans are turning to nonprofits – with 30% of Albertans expecting to access charitable services to meet their basic needs in the next 6 months. With the increasing demand, 63% of Alberta nonprofits are finding it challenging or very challenging to meet demand. Nearly 1/3 of survey respondents indicated that they are struggling to afford standard operational costs, and 82% of respondents noted that expenses have increased. The study also revealed that nonprofit leaders are concerned about the impacts of the affordability crisis on their staff.

The report also provides insights into diversity, equity, and inclusion in the nonprofit sector, and found that only 50% of participating respondents felt that their nonprofit had equitable policies and practices in place.
