Several corporations across Canada have announced funding for COVID relief efforts, including to food banks across the country. Here are the latest donation announcements:
- 407 ETR will work with the United Way Greater Toronto and the surrounding areas and has made a multi-year commitment totaling $4 million.
- AltaGas announced it will donate $1,000,000 to help community partners in its operating regions respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. The assistance funds, provided by AltaGas, will be distributed to partner organizations on the frontlines supporting local communities and providing critical support to our health care workers addressing the health crisis.
- A long-time partner of the Canadian Red Cross, Aviva Canada is donating $500,000 to support the charitable organization’s Response and Emergency Management programs for COVID-19, as well as other disaster response efforts.
- With a single donation, Canadians can support broad COVID-19 response efforts in Canada through the newly launched CanadaHelps COVID-19 Cause Funds. Each donation to the Funds will be doubled by Gore Mutual Foundation which has committed $2 million in matching funds to be split between COVID-19 Community Care Fund and COVID-19 Healthcare and Hospital Fund.
- Canada Life announced that it is contributing $100,000 to The Frontline Fund in support of the fight against COVID-19.
- Canadian Pacific is donating $350,000 to The Frontline Fund and C$250,000 to Food Banks Canada.
- The Co-operators Group Ltd. announced $200,000 in funding to be distributed to 28 local United Way Centraides where The Co-operators has corporate operations.
- H&M will make an in-kind donation of three hundred thousand dollars’ worth of product to Women’s Shelters Canada.
- IKEA Canada announced its commitment to provide approximately $2.3M in product and supply donations to support local communities impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
- Imperial Equities Inc. announced the donation of 10,000 ft2 of Imperial’s local warehouse space to help ensure Edmonton’s Food Bank has needed warehouse and storage space available to manage through COVID-19 challenges.
- The Indigo Love of Reading Foundation committed $1 million in books and educational resources to support Canadian children in high-needs communities during the COVID-19 pandemic.
- The Ledcor Group of Companies is supporting children and families affected by the COVID-19 pandemic by donating $400,000 to local food banks in Canada and the US.
- Lowe’s Canada announced a philanthropic investment of $1 million to support Canadian associates and communities now and as the pandemic continues.
- Maple Leaf and the Centre for Action on Food Security have committed over $1 million in financial contributions and a further $350,000 in product donations towards these efforts and is asking Canadians to join by visiting www.aparttogether.ca and making a direct donation to either Community Food Centres Canada or Food Banks Canada.
- MLSE’s meal donation program will reach 100,000 meals produced later this week, and to accommodate the overwhelming support and donations to date, the program has been expanded to include the use of BMO Field, and the addition of BMO as a lead partner, to maximize its impact in the community.
- Medavie, through its Foundation, is committing $5 million to support the needs of Canadians responding to COVID-19. The funding will focus on initiatives addressing food insecurity, the mental health needs of adolescents, and frontline responders coping with COVID-19-related anxiety and post-traumatic stress.
- METRO announced a donation of $500,000 to Feed Ontario and United Way, along with a pledge to match customer donations of up to $500,000 in support of its Together We Can toonie-fundraising campaign.
- National Bank will donate $500,000 to ten organizations that work in the mental health field in different regions of the country.
- Over a five-day period, individual associates of Raymond James contributed more than $90,000. The Raymond James Canada Foundation then matched the funds raised for a total donation of $200,000 to over 30 food banks and homeless shelters in communities across Canada.
- Roots Canada has donated $500,000 in products to be repurposed as scrubs at local Canadian medical facilities.
- Through the St-Hubert Foundation, the St-Hubert Group is making a $100,000 donation to the Food Banks of Quebec. St-Hubert is increasing its donation with nearly 2,000 St-Hubert chicken pies, prepared at its Boisbriand plant.
- Save-On-Foods has committed $500,000 toward their $1 million fundraising goal aimed at giving kids easier access to school meal supports during the COVID-19 pandemic.
- Scotiabank has committed $2.5-million to community response efforts across its footprint. In recognition of the rapid pace at which the COVID-19 pandemic is evolving, Scotiabank has also established a $750,000 fund to support the emerging needs of local charities as the crisis continues to unfold.
- Shaw Communications has pledged $1 million to Community Food Centres Canada (CFCC) to support the efforts of community food centres and agencies in cities and towns across the country while helping provide food security and empowerment to those most in need.
- SkipTheDishes is launching a $1 million partnership with Food Banks Canada – the leading national food bank network working to relieve hunger during this critical time, and beyond.
- Sleep Country has announced they are donating $1.5 million worth of product to support local communities during the COVID-19 health crisis. The Giving Initiative will provide mattresses, beds and sleep essentials to vulnerable communities and frontline medical workers across Canada.
- Staples Canada has doubled the prize for the 2020 Superpower your SchoolTM Contest by awarding $200,000 to an additional 10 schools across Canada.
- Subway® Canada donates 1 million meals to Food Banks Canada, as well as, starting March 30th, Subway® will donate $2 from every delivery purchase to Food Banks Canada.
- Sun Life is donating an initial C$1 million to support communities impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic , with support going to organizations addressing urgent health concerns, with a focus on support for at-risk populations such as the elderly, and access to food through local food banks.
- In just four weeks, Sysco Canada’s Foodies Unite, donates over 3.3 million meals to Canadians in need through Food Banks of Canada, Second Harvest and Breakfast Clubs Canada as part of their ongoing commitment to nourishing our community.
- Through the TD Community Resilience Initiative, part of the TD Ready Commitment, TD will allocate $25 million (CAD) to help strengthen community resilience today and into the future.
- The TELUS Friendly Future Foundation has announced a $10 million commitment to help urgently support and enhance public healthcare capacity and community response across Canada.
- Travelers announced a $5 million commitment to assist families and communities impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic in North America, the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland. They have also set up a matching program of up to $500,000 to match – on a 2-for-1 basis – employee contributions to designated organizations, including Food Banks Canada and United Way. They also responded to Olympic gold medalist and hockey player, Hayley Wickenheiser’s call for donations of personal protective equipment (PPE) to support frontline healthcare workers. The company’s employees collected its surplus supply and donated 1500 gloves and 250 N95 masks.
- Tribute Communities announced a $500,000 contribution to Daily Bread Food Bank.
- Uber has pledged over $6M in free rides, meals, and food deliveries for healthcare workers, seniors, and people in need across Canada. Since April 29, Uber has been putting its network of drivers to good use by having them deliver food to families in need on behalf of local community organizations.
- Unilever will donate $3 million of essential goods to Canadians in need through food banks which are experiencing high demand due to economic uncertainty.
- Valero Energy announced a second wave of donations in the amount of $150,000, this time to support organizations that deal with food security, domestic violence and other urgent needs.
