What is GivingTuesday?
Most people know about Black Friday and Cyber Monday…now GivingTuesday is coming to Canada on December 2, 2014. It is a new Canadian movement for giving and volunteering, taking place each year after Cyber Monday. The “Opening day of the giving season,” it is a day where charities, companies and individuals join together to share commitments, rally for favourite causes and think about others.
“Whether it’s raising awareness, volunteering or fundraising, GivingTuesday was created to inspire everyone to get involved and rally around the causes that are meaningful to them,” said Marina Glogovac, president and CEO, CanadaHelps. “Just as Black Friday kicks off the holiday shopping season, GivingTuesday is the opening day of the giving season. This year, more than 2,800 businesses, charities and organizations will join hundreds of thousands of Canadians from coast to coast to celebrate giving back.”
Last year thousands of people told the world why they support the causes they care about by sharing an #UNselfie. This expression of giving took on a life of its own with world leaders and major celebrities joining everyday people to tell their giving stories.

CharityVillage Celebrates #GivingTuesdayCA
The CharityVillage team had such a great time participating in last year’s #UNselfie campaign that we were all super excited to do it again this year. Many of our team enjoyed the experience so much that they joined in this year with multiple #UNselfie pictures!
Want to get involved? Simply take a photo that tells your own giving story, whether it be in the form of monetary donations, in-kind gifts, volunteering or random acts of kindness and upload to your social media channels to motivate your network. On Twitter, tag us (@CharityVillage) and GivingTuesday (@GivingTuesdayCA) and use the hashtag #GivingTuesdayCA so we can help share your story!
